What’s Mine Is Yours…
So, friends of mine are graduation from Law School in a few weeks and we got to talking on some different legal practices and what they would be focusing on. My friend S was talking about looking into a PA law firm that covered eminent domain. She said that the most famous of Pennsylvania eminent domain is Centralia, PA.
Centralia was a small coal mining borough in Northern PA that became a ghost town after a coal line underground caught fire and has been burning for almost 50 years and could burn for another 250 more years.
Dress You Up
Now that Christmas is fast approaching, I’ve been racking my brain for what to get my elderly Great- Grandmother who is in a nursing home. She needs special needs clothing that are not easily purchasable in any kind of store. She has very bad arthritis and is wheelchair bound so dressing is very hard for her. We tried to find her some senior citizen clothing that could be tailored to her needs but no one really sells wheelchair clothing. We did a few searches and found that there are a few companies that can adapt clothing for people who need help with dressing.
It’s a great find and a great service…
In and Out
So, I was up watching television late last night. I’ve been suffering from some serious insomnia lately. So, while I was watching one of those home and garden channels, they had this show on where they were redoing an office building and they were fixing the doors, windows and basically giving it a new and fresh and modern look. They were looking at sliding glass doors and I heard the guy mention “Whether you’re looking for a concealed closer or a surface door closer…” In all honesty, I didn’t know what was what… And then I did some searching on them. I never realized that the pieces of doors had names. I thought that they were spring loaded. Well, I guess they could be.
So I kept watching. They really did the place nicely. They used a lot of low energy hardware and even looked at using some eco-friendly energy savings techniques. I was pleasantly surprised!
Party at YOUR place
If I was ever gonna throw a party, I’m not sure I could handle the aftermath like this guy does…
Gotta tell you… after having MANY parties like this in college, I LOVE the fact that you can hook up the Motorola Endeavor™ HX1 headset and have a free hand to clean. (picking up beer bottles one handed is such a pain!) PLUS, the fact that many states are seriously enforcing the “Headset While Driving” laws makes this one a keeper.
Surgery and Shopping!
So, I have been back and forth to doctors for months now. I had knee surgery a little more then a month ago, but of course the doctors did ridiculous amounts of blood tests on me. They were worried about all of the arthritis that I had around my knee, so they had me get tested for Lyme’s Disease, Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. So, while I worried how I could possibly be broken down in the next few years, I looked into the option of adaptive clothing and making life easier.
The first thing I thought of when I looked up ‘adaptive clothing‘ was… well, what IS adaptive clothing?? I immediately thought of handicap clothing and thought ‘Ugh… I’m gonna look like I went shopping in an old people store!’. However a lot of the clothing I found was modern, functional and looked comfortable. Plus, in today’s economy, it’s not bank breaking.
Turn Yourself Green
So, everyone is talking about ‘going green’. You know, solar panels to use energy and heat for your home. Using energy saving light bulbs in your home. Recycling paper, plastic and metal and overall becoming more Earth conscious and Earth friendly.
There are a few easy and simple ways that you can ‘Go Green’. Nothing extravagant, but in the end something that is easy and will make you (and the planet) feel better… I found some through Go.com…
*Be a Friend to Farmers - By shopping more directly with the organic producers you can not only save money but also put more cash in the farmers’ pockets and support local food production.
*Clean for Under a Buck – You can clean most of your house with a non-toxic cleaner that usually costs less than a dollar. A little water and baking soda makes a terrific cleaning paste for tubs, sinks, stoves, and other surfaces.
*Super Sun Savings – Open those blinds and curtains and turn off the lights. Sunlight is free … and completely renewable.
*Old News is Good News – Avoid the expense and waste of bubble wrap. Instead, reach for yesterday’s newspaper as packing material. It might seem old fashioned, but what was good for grandma is still good for you.
*Save Money and Miles – By strategically combining errands and avoiding unplanned trips to the store, you’ll save gas and make your wallet a little fatter. Plus, you’ll be spewing less pollution into the air from your car.
Now, it’s not just your home that can go green. Your job can as well. Your job can actually get lighting retrofit on their lights and it can help defray costs. Green commercial lighting goes a long way these days.
New Job
Before I started working at the job I have now, I used to work for a leading cellular communications company. I worked there for about 4 1/2 years before moving on. While I was there, they did a full remodel of our store… basically expanding the showroom to 3 times the size it was when I first started there. I remember that it was an awful 3 months while they remodeled. However it was nice that we got to pick some of the finishing touches of the store. They let us choose where we would be stationed, they brought in a few different pieces of exit door hardware for us to choose so we felt that we helped decorate the store (well the girls. The guys had no care save for which rep had the best strategy for getting customers as soon as they walked in).
I work in a smaller place now, and while it doesn’t have the compressed air, desk cleaner and hardwood floor cleaner smell that mt old job had, it’s a bit more rewarding for me.
Gettin’ Ready!
So now that summer is upon us, it’s time for the wonderful WONDERFUL time in a persons life called PRESEASON!!!!!!!
Of course, being a Philadelphia Eagles fan, the first thing one has to do is look up their schedule for the infamous Dallas Cowboys games. Come on now, I bleed green and white!
However, like I had mentioned previously, I have family that are die hard Cowboys fans and check out the Dallas Cowboy travel packages every year. Of course, we ‘iggles’ fans make fun of them for it cause who would really like the Cow’girls’ anyway? However, they have a great time and really, this is all about the love of the game.
So readers, I ask you this… Who is your favorite NFL team?
Sad News
You know, I realize that the economy really isn’t what it used to be. People are finding that they are not winning against the recession and jobs are lost everyday. However, there is a restaurant that was doing a great deal of business in the Northern Pennsylvania region that had their doors closed for no reason.
Why would you close a business in today’s economy and put close to 30 people out of a job? Granted, a wait job isn’t raking in the cash, but with the right clientele, you can really do well for yourself. They were doing right.
Thanks to the people who closed this place. In reality, you just made close to 90 peoples lives that much harder to live. Husbands. Wives. Children. Way to go.
To Go Or Not To Go
So my husband and I are deciding on whether we want to look into redecorating our place or moving. I know… both sides of the gamut. If we move, it’ll be to South Carolina. 10 hours away from home. If we stay and redecorate our home, I have to figure out just how I am going to acquire about 1000 more square feet of living space. We’ve lived there for almost 3 years now and I’m just starting to put up wall art and other home decorations.
It’s crazy… cost of living is just so different from here to there. Working from home is a plus too… however meetings with clients that I have would be difficult… I would be a Mason-Dixon line away…
